Theatre ReVisioning Itself
ReVision Theatre, based since 2008 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, is a professional regional theatre company dedicated to producing invigorating theatre with a fresh new perspective, and to reaching the diverse communities of Asbury Park and Monmouth County. Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Directors David E. Leidholdt, Thomas Morrissey and Stephen Bishop Seely, ReVision Theatre produces reinventions of previously produced classics, overlooked or forgotten work in a new way, and new work with a fresh voice. The company also serves as a nurturing home for local artists and writers. ReVision Theatre additionaly believes in the importance of theatre education and offers a variety of programs for local area children, teens and adults. ReVision Theatre produces readings, workshops, cabarets, concerts, and fully staged productions.
In its opening season in Asbury Park, ReVision Theatre produced Hello, Dolly! starring Richard Skipper as Carol Channing at the Paramount Theatre, and the highly acclaimed and sold-out production of Hair at the Carousel House on the Boardwalk. The 2008-09 season includes the madcap three cast member, twenty three character Scrooge In Rouge, an English Music Hall Christmas Carol at the VFW Hall theatre; Kingdom, the highly anticipated new hip hop rock musical based on the Latin Kings gang at the VFW Hall theatre; Funny Girl starring Steven Brinberg as Barbra Streisand at the Paramount Theatre; and The Full Monty at the Carousel House on the Boardwalk.
ReVision Theater began as The Genesius Guild in 1995 in New York City. Genesius was founded by Mr. Morrissey along with a group of forty other professional theatre artists, including actors, writers, directors, singers and dancers, who joined forces in the creation and development of new plays and musicals. Under the leadership of Mr. Morrissey, the group developed and presented hundreds of new works. Mr. Leidholdt and Mr. Seely joined Genesius in 2001 as Director of New Play Development and Director of New Musical Development, respectively, and more promising works were nurtured through the development process, including fully staged productions. Products of the Genesius development process include Just Us Boys by Frank Stancati, Dalliance In Vienna by Douglas Braverman, The Glass Mendacity by Maureen Morley & Tom Willmorth, Box by Fred Shahadi and Another Gay Play by Jonathan Tolins, which transferred to an Off-Broadway run as The Last Sunday in June. The company was incorporated as a non-profit organization called The Genesius Guild, Inc in 1997 and operated in New York City through 2007. The Genesius Guild, Inc., doing business as ReVision Theatre, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization and is registered with both the New York and New Jersey Charities Registration Bureaus. ReVision Theatre produces its mainstage productions in arrangement with Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), the union for professional actors and stage managers, operating under the Small Professional Theatre (SPT) contract, and with the Society Of Stage Directors & Choreographers, the union for professional directors and choreographers (SSDC), operating under their Tier Contract.
