History
Our Journey
ReVision Theatre arrived in Asbury Park in 2008 and hit the ground running. In our opening season ReVision produced Hello, Dolly! at the Paramount Theatre starring Richard Skipper as Carol Channing and the highly acclaimed and sold-out production of Hair at the Carousel House on the Boardwalk.
The 2008-2009 Season included the madcap, three-cast-member, twenty-three character Scrooge in Rouge , an English Music Hall-style version of “A Christmas Carol” at the VFW Hall theatre. Kingdom , the highly anticipated new hip hop rock musical based on the Latin Kings gang also at the VFW Hall theatre; Funny Girl starring Steven Brinberg as Barbra Streisand at the Paramount Theatre; and The Full Monty at the Carousel House on the Boardwalk.
In 2010 we returned to the Carousel House for an entire season. Including The Who’s Tommy , the world premiere of the musical The Bikinis , and the classic The Rocky Horror Show . Shows were performed to sold out crowds and extended runs.
We expanded our season in 2011. A one night only fundraiser of Dreamgirls opened the season at the Paramount Theatre. The mainstage season at the Carousel House included Xanadu , Spring Awakening , The Break Up Notebook and Little Shop of Horrors . The 2011 season ended with A Christmas Survival Guide , from the creators of The Bikinis at Chico’s House of Jazz for a sold out run.
ReVision Theatre began as The Genesius Guild in 1995 in New York City. Genesius was founded by a group of forty other professional theatre artists, including actors, writers, directors, singers and dancers, who joined forces in the creation and development of new plays and musicals. The group developed and presented hundreds of new works. Products of the Genesius development process included Another Gay Play by Jonathan Tolins, which transferred to an Off-Broadway run as The Last Sunday in June . The company was incorporated as a non-profit organization called The Genesius Guild, Inc in 1997 and operated in New York City through 2007.
ReVision Theatre is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization and is registered with both the New York and New Jersey Charities Registration Bureaus.
ReVision Theatre was the recipient of journalist Philip Dorian’s 2008 Normy Award for Achievement in Theatre and the 2009 Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce Carousel Award for Economic Development.
