Shows and Events
Each year since 2008, ReVision Theatre has focused on developing a robust mainstage season. Each season has contained “revisioned” revivals of well known Broadway musicals as well as productions of new musicals and regional premieres. For the past two years, we extended our mainstage season though October to include Halloween inspired productions of Rocky Horror Show and Little Shop of Horrors .
We have revisioned such Broadway classics such as Jerry Herman’s Tony Award winning musical Hello Dolly , with the critically acclaimed and award winning Richard Skipper as Carol Channing. In 2009, audiences got to experience Funny Girl , not seen on the Broadway stage since 1960’s in the production that thrust Barbra Streisand into national stardom. We featured MAC and Bistro winner Steven Brinberg and gave the audience a big surprise with a special appearance by the legendary Lainie Kazan, Fanny Brice standby in the original production.
Controversy is no stranger to ReVision Theatre. Inspired by the true stories of current and former Latin Kings, we produced Kingdom , a show that explores the tragic impact of gangs and gang violence on a small urban community. The musical features book and lyrics by Aaron Jafferis, with music by Ian Williams. Awards for Kingdom include a 2008 Richard Rodgers Award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, Best Musical and Best Book of 2008-09 by the New Jersey Star-Ledger, and Most Promising New Musical at the 2006 New York Theatre Musical Theatre Festival.
ReVision remains active throughout the year with our Readings from Asbury Park series. We use the reading series as part of our development of new works. Past readings have included The Poor Don’t Play Croquet by 2009 Richard Rodgers Award winner Jeff Hughes, Daybreak by fast-rising composer Bobby Cronin and The Cuban and the Redhead, based on Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball by Robert Bartley and Danny Whitman.
Our Cabaret Series at Chico’s House of Jazz premièred in 2012. These are informal evenings of music ranging from Broadway to New Works to Jazz. We use it as platform to promote local and young talent in Asbury Park.
ReVision Theatre is committed to bringing live performances to Asbury Park throughout the year.
